Lake Naivasha, Crescent Island – Naivasha, Kenya

In the eastern tip of the island is possible to navigate in a private club boat. Sunday's races are a spectacle incongruous in the bottom of the Rift Valley and the sight of the walls of the Rift Valley from the lake is a totally exciting experience.

Throughout resident birds are fish eagles, ospreys, lily, trotters, black coots and a variety of egrets. Hippo also live in the lake. Some of the mammals can be seen grazing around the lake that surrounds it, like zebras, impalas, buffalo, giraffe, Kongoni and at night, hippos.

Lake Naivasha is 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Nairobi on the main highway in Nairobi, Kisumu. The old road, track a former elephant trail, winds through the eastern Rift Valley Escarpment Wall and should be avoided, except for the bravest: he has been relegated to truck transport. The road skirts the newest upper Limuru Escarpment, only to slip through the crack, just south of Naivasha. From either, there is a magnificent view of Lake Naivasha and the extinct volcanoes and Longonot Suswa in the valley.

Accommodation is available in the Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge Resort orNaivasha. The traditional bright Kenya Sunday Lunch at Lake Naivasha hotel recommended, even if they stay. Point of view on the lake from the manicured lawns in the shade of the trees bark yellow fever, not soon forgotten.

There are a number of camps in the side south of the lake, probably the best known is the Fisherman's Camp where bands can be rented or you can pitch your own tent. Bands are also available YMCA Camp and Camp at the top. If you have camping gear, Safari Lodge is also a camping ground.

Going to Hell: Hells Gate National Park, a beautiful stretch dramatically through the volcanic mountain range south of Lake Naivasha, only recently created. It is about 13 kilometers (eight miles) south-east of Naivasha and is about 68 square kilometers (27 square miles) in area. The highlight is walking through Ol Njorowa the narrow gorge and then through the throat through Hell's Gate steam plumes of hot springs boiling water falling on one side. The throat opens in a green valley. There is a healthy population of zebras, Thompson gazelles and baboons. Look out for birds of prey. The park is currently trying to stabilize lammergerier its recent introduction of prey. Apparently, cheetahs and leopards call home to this area. The terrain is perfect for them, but good luck spotting one of the cats elusive. Interesting rock formations such as the Central Tower, a column of rock, are all through the park.

The park is an impressive gorge, with high cliffs. Near the entrance is Fischer's Tower, a lone 25-meter (82 feet) high rock. powerful geysers, which gave its name to the park have been boosted with foreign aid to generate electricity. The geothermal power project has been carefully implemented so as not to affect the beauty of the park.

Among the birds that are seen are a colony of Ruppell vulture and a pair of resident osprey nest in the cliffs. The vultures have developed the habit of scanning the bones, aa flying high altitudes and placing them in the bone and reveal several "drop the door.
