Part 400 acres (1,6 km2) park is now owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, and was of the former Paramount Parks chain to Cedar Fair acquired from CBS Corporation on 30 June 2006. The park is named after its sister park, Kings Island in Kings Mills, Ohio, which opened its doors in 1972. Both parks were originally built and owned Kings Entertainment Company kecoa alias. While Kings Island has been named as a combination of Kings Mills (location) and Coney Island (theme park to be built to replace), Kings Dominion name was more than likely a reference to Virginia as the nickname "Old Dominion".

History
Early history as Kings Dominion (1975-1989)
The entrance to the park, seen from the observation deck of the replica Eiffel Tower
Kings Dominion officially opened in 1975 with 15 attractions. However, in 1974, the park had a "soft" (partial key, low) only for the opening of the now defunct Lion Country Safari attraction and a junior coaster, now called the Scooby Doo Coaster Ghosted. Also in 1974, the park was over Rebel Yell's rollercoaster career (designed by John Allen of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company), however, was not opened until 1975 with the rest of the park. When the park premiered in the spring of 1975, also included a recording channel, antique cars, steam train, and a collection of flat racing. Another roller coaster, Galaxie, was located in the Grove next to the man-made Lake Charles, which took up 10 acres (40,000 m2) of park property. In addition, 1/3-scale replica Kings Dominion Eiffel Tower, with a viewing platform where visitors could view the whole park was opened by the first full season of operation of the park. In addition to Lion Country Safari, the original thematic areas of the park is called The Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera, Old Virginia, and Coney Island (named Candy Apple Grove before next season).
Kings Dominion added their fourth roller coaster, a Schwarzkopf carrying handle known as the King Kobra, in 1977. The king offered a release Kobra of 50 tons in weight and fall to counter roller park was first launched mountain. It was in the park for nine seasons before being moved to Jolly Roger Park of attractions in Ocean City, Maryland. After several more shipments, continues to operate today as in Katapul Hopi Hari in Brazil. Also in 1977, it was Kings Dominion one of several amusement parks used as sets for film roller coaster.
In addition to King Kobra, Kings Dominion opened a camping and well-known-Lost internationally in the mountains before the end of the 1970s. Originally, the lost world appears three rides: a flume ride called Journey to Atlantis, the attraction Children known as Land of Dooz, and a rotor shaft called Time. Journey to Atlantis was superseded by the river channel Haunted theme ride in 1980. Kings Dominion would add its second wooden coaster, the Grizzly, in the forests of Virginia's old park in 1982. Kings Dominion opened its rapid progress, Agua Blanca Canyon in the 1983 Old Virginia. Also in 1983, a 13 year old boy killed while riding on the roller coaster Galaxie. A swing, a pirate ship called the Berserker investing were added on the street next year's International. In 1984, a walk Smurf, Smurf Mountain replaced the ride of mines in the lost world. Thereafter, the Lost World it was known as Smurf Mountain. The mountain was rebuilt in 1997, and has been occupied only by Volcano: The Blast Coaster since 1998.
The replica of the Tower Eiffel at Kings Dominion
After three seasons without a new roller coaster, Kings Dominion announced its TOGO foot roller coaster, Shockwave, in 1986, the same year that the park removed King Kobra. Shockwave, like King Cobra, has a loop, but also has a propeller. (Also known as The King Cobra roller coaster at Kings Island, which was a roller coaster-like stand-up shock wave closed in 2002.) Third and last roller coaster to Kings Dominion added during the decade 1980 was Avalanche, which remains the only Mack bobsled roller coaster in the United States. Avalanche trains are themed after the United States, France, Canadian, German and Swiss sleds, so that train drivers can simulate different being in a sled race in the Olympic Winter Games.
Although Lion Country Safari attraction was the first portion of the park to open, it was eliminated after Paramount bought the park. Much of the Lion Country Safari occupied the ground behind the Anaconda roller coaster, Kings Dominion still owns the land, but has used most of it in the first place for storage rather to open new attractions. Diamond Falls, another flume ride, opened in 1985 until closing in 2002. Three Rivers Racing sets of water slides slides opened in 1987 and has remained open during the 1990s.
The first property 1990s/transition Paramount
Kings Dominion continued to add new areas to its fleet in early and mid-1990s. In 1990, Hanna-Barbera extended to include the Earth more games for children. The 1991 season saw the addition of mountain next to the large roller, the Arrow looper Anaconda, which was also first roller coaster in the world to have an underwater tunnel. (The tunnel was partly Lake Charles.) Anaconda was also originally advertised as having six loops and continues to bill that way. However, unlike Drachen Fire, an investment six Arrow looper which opened at Busch Gardens Williamsburg the following year, the anaconda is actually only four investments: a vertical loop, a sidewinder, and two consecutive corkscrews.
Kings Dominion opened its water park as Hurricane Reef in 1992. In its inaugural season, which included the first Chutes Monsoon (Two pairs of free falling body slides, at 70 and 50 feet (15 m) high, respectively), the torrential Twist (two enclosed slides that wrap around the body the other), Pipeline (four slides open body), Cyclone (three slides closed the body, the center of which was a free-fall), Tidal Wave (two slides open to riders mounted on inner tubes, Splash Island (an area for children with five waterslides), and a lazy river. The Kings Dominion Theatre (called "the Paramount Theatre during the era of Paramount Parks)
Used Kings Dominion Logo from 1993 – 2002 During the years of Paramount (a review was used from 2003 to 1906)
Kings Dominion continued its growth when it became part of Paramount Parks in 1993 and changed its name to Paramount's Kings Dominion. The new rides and amusement park areas of television programs and movies from Paramount appeared Paramount Kings Dominion in almost every season they were under the ownership of Paramount. In 1993, added a motion simulator attraction originally with the movie Days of Thunder, and the Lion County Safari retires at the end of the season. The 1994 season saw the addition of a new area of Paramount theme park 1992 film Wayne's World, which featured his third wooden coaster full-size wheels, Hurler, a store called the Rock Shop, restaurant and another similar to the one Stan Mikita appears in Wayne's World. Since then, Wayne's World section has been merged in Candy Apple Grove (later was renamed the Grove), Stan Mikita became the Cafe Happy days, and Hurler has no theming Wayne's World, with the exception of an aerosol some painted "Wayne's World" logo near the departure. In the following year, another children's area, known as Nickelodeon Splat City was opened near the roller coaster Shockwave. This became later in Nick Central. Smurf Mountain was also eliminated in 1995, leaving a mountain of fiber glass suspended in the back of the park.
In 1996, Paramount's Kings Dominion submitted its second set in motion roller coaster, and the first LIM-launched mountain coaster, The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear. The Outer Limits had a 56 miles (90 km) per hour of release, those investments, and an identical "spaghetti bowl "design for the ride of the same name at Kings Island. Almost as remarkable as the release of The Outer Limits was the fact that the whole trip was in darkness, pilots could not see where it's going. (Six Flags America, a nearby park in Maryland, another "spaghetti bowl" roller coaster with the same provision as Flight of Fear, known as Jinx Joker. Joker Jinx, however, is a mountain outdoors.) Five years after The Outer Limits opened, the Paramount deal License to use parks theming series television after the trip was appointed expired Foreign-related limits to the theming ride and its tail was removed, and the trip was renamed flight of fear.

Volcano, which is manufactured by Intamin AG, was first LIM-launched inverted roller in the world mountain. The trip included Released two separate sections, one loop style Immelman at the top of the mountain, and three rolls Heartline on the way back down. (Explosions of fire shot out the top of the mountain for added effect.) Paramount Volcano was the subject of 1997 film of the volcano, the other Paramount Parks added inverted or suspended coaster Top Gun themed around the same time. Over the next two seasons, Paramount's Kings Dominion Reefs expanded hurricane behind the Rebel Yell and changed the name of Water Supply. (Most of the original Hurricane Reef is open from 2006, the two zones are linked by a path in the Rebel Yell.) The new section includes pipe Water Peak, a closed set of four slides, one of which (the slider of the night) is the World's Tallest weak ray of light in free fall. In 2000, Nick Central opened in what was Nick Splat the city and part of Kidzville.
The park added its third mountain launched coaster, Hypersonic XLC, in 2001. Hypersonic XLC a push Air 2000 Mountain air-launched by S & S Power, released drivers 0-80 miles (130 kilometers) per hour in 1.5 seconds, taking them up an incline of 87 degrees and down a drop of 87 degrees. The entire trip takes about 25 seconds. Hypersonic XLC often broke and closed for the first three months of its second season, no other Paramount Parks set up a similar journey. However, Hypersonic XLC helped Paramount's Kings Dominion establish the reputation as "the capital of Russia launched the world." Hypersonic XLC was retired after the 2007 season.
The decade 2000 saw the Paramount's Kings Dominion amusement opening of new attractions similar to those existing in other Paramount parks. In 2002, the park opened its new wild mouse coaster, Ricochet. Carowinds also installed its rebound in 2002. Diamond Falls, giant flume ride at Kings Dominion Paramount also closed the season, leading several seasons of speculation park visitors traveling on would take his place. The Drop Zone at Kings Dominion Paramount, at 305 ft (93 m) tall, was the trip more highest free fall in the world at the time of its opening. In 2004, Paramount Kings Dominion added Scooby-Doo! and Haunted Mansion, Scooby-Doo like dark themed rides opened in three other Paramount parks during the three previous seasons. The following season, Paramount Kings Dominion adds a higher reverse rotation called Tomb Raider: Firefall, which was an outdoor version of a similar ride called Tomb Raider: The Ride at Paramount's Kings Island. The differences between the two was that at the feet of Kings Dominion drivers' hang freely and Kings Island is a flat. In the 2006 season, Paramount's Kings Dominion opened the Italian Job Turbo Coaster, released its fourth roller mountain. Unlike the previously built up mountains in the Paramount Kings Dominion, each of which was faster than its predecessor, the Italian Job Turbo is designed more coaster ride as a family and has several releases to 40 miles (64 km) per hour. Backlot Stunt renamed coaster in 2008 the journey is similar to games Backlot Stunt Coaster at Kings Island and Canada's Wonderland, which both opened in 2005.
