halal substitute for orange extract?

I know that there is non alcoholic vanilla extract, but what about orange extract? Can I just use orange rind shavings instead?(this is in a cookie recipe)

You could try googling a non-alcoholic orange extract. Some health food outlets and stores might carry it. Otherwise, most of the flavor of the essential oils are in the skin, and I often see cooks using the zest to perk up a recipe. Just be sure not to get the white pith underneath, as it is bitter. If the cookies require any liquid, you can put in a little orange juice. Have fun! I love baking and have to do occasional work arounds when the recipe asks for something not halaal.

Actually, I just googled a site that sells orange extract. Theirs is 89% alcohol and 11% orange oil. That oil is in the zest so you’ll get the exact same results with zest and it will probably taste better.
